Bio

 

Born in Santander, Spain, Guzmán Ramos is currently the classical guitar and lute instructor at Douglas College, in New Westminster, BC, Canada. Completed his professional diploma in classical guitar with Julian Lopez, and went on to study early music in both Spain and The Netherlands. Guzmán holds a professional diploma for his studies in Madrid with Jesus Sanchez, and a Bachelor's and Masters degree in early plucked strings from the Royal Conservatory in the Hague, where he studied with Joachim Held and Mike Fentross.

 

Guzmán has participated in numerous medieval, renaissance and baroque music projects with groups and musical directors such as Charles Toet, Phillipe Pierlot, Pieter van Heyghen, and The Nieuwe Philharmonie Utrecht under Johannes Leertouwer. Guzmán has performed in several international early music festivals such as the Holland Festival, Festival Musicale Estense (Italy), Festival de Musica Antigua de Peñiscola (Spain), and several fringe festivals including the Utrecht Early Music Festival, MA Festival (Bruges), and Festival Antiqva, (Spain).

 

Guzmán is also an active collaborator and has co-founded the Allegoria Ensemble which focusses on early Italian and Spanish baroque repertoire, as well as the duo Il Passaggio Segreto with soprano Camille Hesketh. The latter was just recently invited to perform as one of five ensembles selected for the International Young Artist Presentation for the Laus Polyphoniae festival, Antwerp, Belgium.
